Mac : Cannot add account in Office 2011

By | December 24, 2013

Having issue adding a new account with Office Outlook 2011 on Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9? The strange behaviour I observed is that nothing happen when you click on “add account” and the Preference pane freeze up!

I also noticed the following error messages in the logs (/var/log/system.log) :

Dec 24 00:00:00 hostname.domain.tld Microsoft Outlook[433]: OTAtomicAdd8 is deprecated and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.
Dec 24 00:00:00 hostname.domain.tld Microsoft Outlook[433]: OTCompareAndSwap8 is deprecated and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.
Dec 24 00:00:00 hostname.domain.tld Microsoft Database Daemon[435]: OTAtomicAdd8 is deprecated and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.
Dec 24 00:00:00 hostname.domain.tld Microsoft Database Daemon[435]: OTCompareAndSwap8 is deprecated and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.

Well, it’s obvious that your version of Office is older and using functions no longer supported in that version of OSX.

To resolve this issue, run “Microsoft AutoUpdates” to get the latest version of Office Mac 2011. Update to v14.3.9 or greater.

Once done, you should be able to add account without any issue.
